The band “Cream” popular very[ quickly | swiftly with their classic songs "Sunshine of your love" and "White Room, and soon after in 1967 came a revolutionary left handed guitar player by the name of Jimi Hendrix with his legendary album "Are you Experienced".

Hendrix's new style and craziness on stage became a large influence on the direction that Heavy metal music took and a year later, a band from London England, with their heavy guitar sounds and screeching vocals set the stage for the heavy metal music of the future. Led Zepplin is regarded as one of Heavy metal music's first real Heavy Metal bands, and their music is still highly popular today.

Black Sabbath came along in 1970 and continued to evolve Heavy Metal music. The band's singer, Ozzy Osbourne's eerie singing capability and the rest of the band's gloomy and heavy guitar and drum rhythms, along with dark lyrics were an instant hit with the younger crowd.

Heavy metal music was very popular with the "hippie crowd" of the sixties and early seventies, however the music's popularity began to wane in the late 70's even thoughAC/DC, Judas Priest and Canadian Heavy Metal band, Rush, were at the height of their careers.
In the early 1980's, Heavy metal music saw a brief revival with bands such as Motley Crue and Ozzy Osbourne, however this success was soon overshadowed by the 80's popular music scene which slowly swallowed heavy metal and turned out other genres of music, such as grunge, hard rock, gothic rock, thrash metal and so forth.
Today, Heavy Metal Music still has it's fans from the past and some young fans as well, but it never regained the popularity of the late sixties and early seventies.
